Anxiety Therapist Shares: 10 Gift Ideas for People With Anxiety

Written by: Laurah Hahn, LMHC

The holiday season is almost here, and you know what that means - it's time to start thinking about gifts for your loved ones! Are you ready for the stress and pressure of gift-giving to hit you? We know how challenging it can be to find the perfect present for everyone on your list.

As a therapist providing anxiety therapy in Orlando, I understand how overwhelming this time of year can be.

If you're looking for a gift that will help your friend or loved one reduce some of their anxiety and help them feel more comfortable, this list of 10 items might be just what you need. I've personally used these items to help me manage my own anxiety, so I'm confident that they can be helpful to others as well. Even if you're struggling to find the perfect gift, I hope you'll find something on this list that will be meaningful and helpful to your loved ones.

  1. Weighted Blanket: This gift is my favorite because because it has brought me relief for so many years. A weighted blanket provides a calming and grounding effect, helping to reduce anxiety and promote better sleep. I’ve tried a few different blankets but my favorite has been the baloo weighted blanket it’s machine washable and dryer safe, sustainably made, and has a variety of colors to pick from. Baloo sent me one of these weighted blankets to try and I LOVE it! I use it every night to help me get a restful deep sleep. I also love that for a weighted blanket, it is not too hot.

  2. Aromatherapy Diffuser: Whether I’m at the office or relaxing at home, I always have my diffuser on. I love the smell of different essential oils throughout the day like lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus. An aromatherapy diffuser can disperse these scents throughout your space and create a relaxing environment. This is a fantastic gift for a loved one who needs a little extra calming energy throughout the day.

  3. Guided Meditation: If you know someone who has expressed interest in meditation, gifting them a subscription to a meditation app or a set of guided meditation sessions could be a considerate gesture to encourage mindfulness and relaxation. One of the mindfulness apps that I highly recommend is Chopra. This app provides a variety of meditation options and assists you in staying committed to meditating once a day. 4. Journal: Starting my mornings by writing in my journal is a part of my routine. So, when someone gifts me a journal, it makes me feel happy and appreciated. A thoughtful and personalized gift for someone is a unique journal, as it provides a safe space for people to express their thoughts and emotions. Journaling can help individuals reflect on themselves and become more mindful. To make this gift even more special, you can write a few prompts inside the journal, tailored to the person’s interests and preferences!

5. Fidget Toy: Fidget toys can be amazing for redirecting nervous energy and providing a tactile outlet for anxiety. They make for a wonderful gift that can be used anytime, anywhere! And guess what? The Fidget Dodgecon is an absolute treat with its 12 sides that can keep you entertained for hours.

6. Herbal Tea Sampler: If you're looking for a gift for someone who needs to unwind after a long day, you can gift them herbal teas. A tea sampler with chamomile and peppermint is known for its calming properties and can help soothe nerves and improve your sleep quality. It's a wonderful opportunity for them to explore the world of herbal teas and find their favorites. Plus, you can pair the sampler with a cute mug that matches their personality. It's a thoughtful and personalized present.

7. Noise-Canceling Headphones: Excessive noise can be a source of anxiety for some individuals. In addition to causing restlessness, it can also hinder concentration. To mitigate these effects, I began using noise-canceling headphones. They work wonders in creating a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, particularly in busy or stressful environments.

8. New Alarm Clock: Creating a morning routine that helps to ease anxiety is something I firmly believe in. I have always struggled with generic alarm clocks and their abrupt wake-up calls. However, in the past year, I have been using the Hatch Alarm Clock and it has been a game-changer for me. It wakes me up gently with the colors of a sunrise and the sounds of birds chirping. It also doubles up as a sound machine with pink noise, white noise, or other sounds that help me throughout the day. I highly recommend this as a gift for a friend or loved one who needs a new way to wake up.

9. Audible Subscription: Audible is an app that provides users with a vast collection of audiobooks and Originals that can be either streamed or downloaded for offline listening. With Audible, users can explore numerous titles and listen to them on the go, anytime and anywhere. By gifting someone an Audible subscription, you give them the opportunity to experience the joy of reading without having to physically read a book!

10. Neck Massager: If someone is feeling anxious, they may experience a lot of tightness in their shoulders, which can be difficult to alleviate. Personally, I find that using a neck massager helps me feel more relaxed and comfortable. I often use it when I'm working, reading, or drinking tea, as it provides a sense of relaxation that helps me cope with my anxiety.

I hope you’re feeling inspired to find the perfect gift for your loved ones after looking over this list. Happy shopping!
